Shadows
by Clare, HMP Cookham Wood

Executive Producer's Note:

In preparation for the production of the Dreaming Will Initiative's
documentary'Bully Me; Bully Who?'  I wrote to Clare
at HMP Cookham Wood on a Friday's afternoon.  'Dear Clare,' I typed, 'We
would all be most deeply appreciative if your good self and your gracious
pen might honour us with a piece of verse or prose on the subject of 'Bullying'.
All that I ask is (a) that it define 'bully'; (b) define 'victim' and (c) offer some
semblance of positive reinforcement.'  I received the text for this wonderful short
combining both formats before I reached my desk on the Monday morning.
Small segments of 'Shadows' were employed at the front of 'Bully Me; Bully Who?',
however, in the original scenario 'Shadows' was to be rooted at the programme's core.
I was deeply disappointed to find that, suddenly, this was not to be the case.
Certainly, I thought Clare's work was far too good to miss any part of its vibrant 3 minute, |
16 second entirety.  Consequently I, myself, paid the editor Michael Dixon
to string the whole together and this wonderful film is the result.
I was, myself, honoured to be able to supply the 'Voice of the Poet'.
The Poet Clare is the recipient of 37 Koestler Awards for Literature.

Writing Wrongs of
Dumbing Down

by Clare, HMP Cookham Wood

Voice of the Poet:  Gayle Hunnicutt

Executive Producer's Note:

Prior to the production of The Wax King, Clare wrote a wonderful poem
in response to the television broadcast of 'Tomorrow LaScala'.  I had the
privilege to read this poem in the 'Talkback' session during the final
performance of The Wax King and was delighted to hear the audience
gasp at the last line of Clare's exquisite verse.

WRITING WRONGS OF DUMBING DOWN (1 minute, 30 seconds) is performed
by the esteemed performer, Miss Gayle Hunnicutt
